Summary

It’s normal for End Date and Latest pay date to show different information. They come from different evidence types and answer different questions.

What these fields mean

Field

Where it comes from

Use case

End date

Any connected source

Determine dates of employment

Latest pay date

Open Banking only

Determine the most recent salary/income payment

Example

In the verification timeline below:

  • End Date is shown as “Present” because HMRC data confirms the applicant is still employed there.

  • Latest Pay Date is 15/11/2024 because this was the most recent salary payment for this employer found in connected bank transactions.

Why might they differ?

The most common reason is incomplete Open Banking data. For example:

  • The applicant changed bank accounts and only connected their old account.

  • They didn’t complete the Open Banking step for that employment.

  • Their salary is now being paid to a bank not supported by Open Banking (rare).

In all these cases, HMRC continues to reflect ongoing employment, but the Latest Pay Date shown will stop at the last connected transaction.
