Practical steps to reduce drop-off and improve completion rates

Completion rates improve most when applicants (1) understand what Konfir is and why it’s required, and (2) can complete the journey in one sitting with the right details to hand.

1) Set expectations clearly

Before you send a verification, set applicants up to succeed. In your email, portal message, or instructions, include:

  • Who Konfir is: Konfir is the platform your organisation uses to verify employment and/or income.

  • Why it’s needed: it’s part of your screening/reference process.

  • How long it takes: most applicants complete the journey in 2–5 minutes (when they have what they need ready).

  • What they need:

    • If HMRC is enabled: they’ll need their Government Gateway login, and in some cases identity verification documents may be required during the HMRC connection process.

    • If Open Banking is enabled: they’ll need access to their online banking login details.

This reduces drop-off caused by confusion (“is this legitimate?”) or not having credentials available.

2) Consider an Enterprise (API) integration

If completion rates are a material operational metric for your process, Enterprise/API integrations typically improve outcomes because they remove friction and increase trust:

  • Seamless handoff: applicants start the journey directly from your flow (instead of relying on email/SMS invite delivery).

  • UX customisation: branded experience and embedded context improves applicant confidence and reduces abandonment.

If you want to explore this, contact your Konfir account owner or email [email protected].
