Documents are uploaded directly, in-flow, by applicants and processed automatically by Konfir: scanned for fraud and relevant data fields extracted and categorised.

What Document Processing data includes

Data Field

Example

Full name

John Doe

Tax year start date

06/04/2024

Tax year end date

05/04/2025

You will also receive the original documents uploaded by the applicant for auditing purposes. These can be accessed via Konsole or API.

Why does Konfir use Document Processing?

Document Processing supplements our Verification Waterfall where digital sources do not fully verify an applicant's employment history - such as non-PAYE work.

  • Reduces fraud risk, as documents are instantly processed for fraud signals like tampering or AI generation

  • Reduces offline workarounds and chasing, as documents are uploaded by the applicant in-flow

What are the limitations?

Document Processing currently enables upload of HMRC SA302 documents (as these are the market standard for self-employment verification) - alternative document types like tax return forms, bank statements and payslips will be rejected at upload.

SA302 documents will not be available to an applicant if:

  • They are a PAYE employee (i.e. not a sole trader, freelancer or limited company director)

  • They haven't been self-employed for a full tax year

  • They haven’t submitted and paid their tax return to HMRC yet

  • They were a sole trader and earned less than £1000
